
An item in last Saturday's Weekly Offerings on Page E4 explaining the role of the Islamic official who cries out the five daily calls to prayer also noted that Christians use a bell to summon worshippers and said that Jews use a trumpet. The trumpet, called a shofar, is traditionally a ram's horn, and it is not used on a regular basis but only on the High Holy Days of Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana.
